Tori in 2007
We adopted Tori through Petfinder in September of 2007, and it seems like just yesterday we were driving home with her to Michigan. I remember every detail so perfectly, especially holding her for the first time and feeling so blessed. I knew she was the one for us for many reasons including the name, Heaven to Earth Rescue, and their phone number matching an address of the home I grew up in, and the numbers of my phone number were just as important to Tori’s rescuers. The Universe guides us on our journey, one just has to take notice. I am so very thankful Tori was rescued and given to us. I know every dog and puppy Heaven to Earth sends on its way, they send a little piece of themselves, too, because they love each animal so deeply, and to them I am forever grateful. Tori is our most precious gift.
We changed Tori’s name to Minnie after soon realizing she had black Minnie Mouse ears embedded in her white fur. We thankfully just celebrated Minnie turning 19 on August 28th and the number 28 also had a significant meaning, reinforcing Minnie was meant to be. There was a full moon on Minnie’s birthday this year, the Universe celebrated her birthday with us. She has seen me through the ups and downs of life, filling voids I never knew I had. Minnie has always given fully of herself, only looking for love in return. I know that love is our superpower, and Minnie has proven that
Minnie and Mickey
over and over again.
We adopted our Mickey through Petfinder in 2011. He had been living in a shelter about an hour away for over 2 months, and estimated to be about 7. He was a stray and they gave him the name Aidan, but Minnie needed a Mickey and Mickey was always so good to her. We went everywhere with great joy. With great sadness though, we had to let Mickey go August 24, 2023, the day of a storm that doesn’t happen but once every 500 years. I will always miss Mickey and all the love he unconditionally gave us. There will never be another, his void in our home can never be measured.
My husband always went home at lunch to let them out, but one day he stopped on his way back to work at a CVS near our home, and bought a lottery ticket, winning $496,000. He never would have been at that CVS if we hadn’t adopted Minnie and Mickey. Because of Minnie and Mickey, we were able to buy a cottage up north near where our son and his family live. After buying the cottage, our identical twin grandsons were born, and they had a genetic condition, one twin almost dying twice. Identical twins being born with CAH happens once in every 8,000,000 births. Having the cottage was such a blessing because we were able to support them and have our own place. The twins are 8 now and you would never know they have a condition, requiring medication four times a day. It’s been quite a journey, but our daughter in law found a top doctor in Minnesota and that has made all the difference. I also mentored a girl for 9 years, her mother dying when she was 5. We bought all her clothes and took her everywhere we could. She graduated college and works with autistic children now, spreading her superpower to the children she heals.
Thankfully, Minnie is doing great! We go to a park every day and I love when people ask if she’s a puppy. People who recognize she is older ask her age, and then if she can see and hear. Everything is working, but we do move slower as the day goes on. One day, there was a rainbow coming out of the water behind our cottage, and there wasn’t a pot of gold, but the rainbow took me on a journey researching rainbows and it opened my eyes and gave me a better understanding of life, the Universe, everything. What I learned is more precious than a pot of gold. I tell Minnie she is Queen of the Universe of all Animals and Mickey is King for they are responsible for opening my eyes to so much around me. Dogs and puppies teach us in more ways than we realize as we journey through life together. Forever blessed and forever thankful to Heaven to Earth Rescue for our sweet miracle Tori/Minnie. I appreciate every single day I have with her and always will. I can’t imagine life without her.
I’ve never taken the time to write all this to you so thanks for asking me to write something. 
After taxes, we ended up with $300,000 and bought a fixer upper. Our journey has been incredible to say the least. I have a picture of you two with Minnie’s brothers and sisters somewhere. I tell Minnie she will be with her other mom and her dad someday, and I ask if she can just stay here as long as she can. She gets her back adjusted every month and has a Reiki practioner. We do everything we can for her. 19 years have flown by. Thank you so much for all you do. You’re forever a part of our journey. I see even more now looking at your address.
